A couple of times, I've found my mailbox filled with critical error
messages:

The BBS doesn't respond, but a shutdown/restart of the BBS solves the
problem. This is on Window 10/32bit.

Try increasing your JavaScript heap, the JavaScriptMaxBytes value in your ctrl/sbbs.ini file. I think the default is now 160M, but was 1/10th of that not long ago.
